    Thanks for your comment, josebeker. I guess I wasn’t clear enough in my post. Sorry. I was comparing new new jobless for January 2009 of 598,000 to the new jobless figures in the three other of the four highest monthly increases.The point I wanted to make is that the percent of newly unemployed for the month as a percentage of the workforce was much more severe in those past months. Obviously, our current economy is in severe trouble and anyone who is unemployed right now is in a terribly difficult position. My concern is that the press and many government officials who make comparisons to past recessions are sensationalizing this one. It’s bad enough without making it seem even worse.The more fear among businesses and consumers the longer and potentially more serious this recession will become.Thanks again for your comment pointing out my lack of clarity.
